It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
