A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional victory, took control to push for a final set.

He saved 4 initial opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
